For the first time in its four-year history, fans have helped select the final stage of the USA Pro Challenge professional cycling race. The race will begin August 18, 2014, in Aspen, Colorado, and cyclists will ride for seven days across the state to the finish line in Denver.
“Cycling fans are so passionate and such an important part of the sport, so we decided to give them a voice in the route-selection process,” Shawn Hunter, CEO of the USA Pro Challenge, said in a press release. “We wanted to try something new this year, and by incorporating fan feedback we have come up with what is going to be an incredible final day of racing.”
The USA Pro Challenge, owned by Consumer Capital Partners chairman Rick Schaden, is an internationally recognized race that draws top athletes from around the world to race through the challenging altitudes of the Rocky Mountains. A month after the first six legs of the 2014 race were revealed, race organizers announced that they used fan input to plan the final leg from Boulder to Denver. The finale of the race will travel through Golden and over Lookout Mountain and will finish with three laps around Colorado’s state capitol building.
