Smashburger recently entered into a franchise agreement with the Mohegan Tribe of Indians of Connecticut to open 16 new restaurants throughout lower New England. Matt Stanton, the vice president of development and strategy at Smashburger, expressed excitement about working with the tribe as the brand expands into the Northeast. The agreement includes locations in New London, Tolland, Middlesex, Litchfield, and Windham Counties in Connecticut. In addition, Smashburger will open locations in Rhode Island and western Massachusetts in partnership with the tribe.
Smashburger serves “better burgers,” which are carefully crafted from 100 percent certified Angus beef and topped with fresh, natural condiments, as well as hand-spun milkshakes, salads, and other items. The chain also commonly partners with nearby microbreweries to pair unique beers with its menu offerings.
The partnership with Smashburger represents the third major business move for the Mohegan Tribe in recent months. The tribe has actively sought to diversify its opportunities, making it a perfect partner for Smashburger, which has sought experienced multi-unit operators in regions around the United States to drive its expansion goals.
