As one of only a handful of substance abuse recovery programs to welcome women and their children, Nexus Recovery Center delivers a wide range of services, including detoxification treatment, residential support, and outpatient programs, to adult females and adolescents aged 13 to 17. The Dallas-based treatment center benefits from the support of the Women’s Auxiliary of Nexus, a volunteer group that sponsors several services for recovery program participants and their children. The Women’s Auxiliary also sponsors children’s holiday parties and a Holiday Bazaar each November. Additionally, the group solicits donations for clothing and household goods, sponsors an adolescent mentoring program, and holds a number of fun, social events throughout the year.
One such event is the Women’s Auxiliary of Nexus Spring Luncheon, which is set for Thursday, April 23, 2015, at the Belo Mansion from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event’s featured speaker, New York Times bestselling author Koren Zailckas, drew on her personal experiences with substance abuse to write Smashed: Story of a Drunken Girlhood.
